This month for my “Out of My Comfort Zone” reading Challenge I am taking on an entire author.
I never wanted to read Cassandra Clare for a few reasons: a) overly hyped series tend to be disappointing. b) that weird incest Harry Potter fan fiction, c) I love companion series, but when its all you do it makes me question your writing ability. Are you actually a good writer? Or did you have one good idea and you’re scared to let go?
Now here are the things I actually knew about her books before reading:
- There is a movie based on the first book.
- There is a “Shadowhunters” TV series that people DO NOT like.
- There are a lot of books.
- One characters name is Chase or Jace or Jax or something
- There’s also a character named Clary. My friend loves her but a lot of people don’t? I have no idea the whys tho.
At the time of writing this introduction, I actually have no idea what these books are about. Is Shadowhunter a title? A species? I have no clue. I haven’t read the synopsis, I haven’t seen the show/movie, and other than the vague understanding that these books are fantasy, I cannot tell you a single thing more about them.
I’m obviously not going to review every single book of hers that I’ve read, because no one wants to read that, I certainly don’t want to write it. But I’m breaking it into sections so this is still going to be a few posts total. ITS A LOT OF BOOKS.

This is the order that I’m reading them, although I’m skipping a few of the books – no tales from the shadow hunters academy or
I was originally going to break it down by series – but that could be hard since I’m not reading them in series order. So we’re going to do it in two parts: Part 1 will be the first nine books, and Part 2 the rest of them.
With the excitement of the recently released Chain of Iron I decided it’s the perfect time to read these books. I’m super nervous because in addition to the reasons I listed being hesitant to read CC, I’ve also noticed that she’s very much a love or hate author. I’m sure there’s some people that are “meh” about her books, but for the most part I either see people RAVE about her books, or they absolutely hate them.

I’ve officially set of on this new author journey, and I can’t wait to see where it goes!
Wish me luck!
I hope you’ll enjoy these. Cassandra Clare is an author I tend to dislike for pretty similar reasons, and the fact that all of her books are related and best read in a certain order is frustrating and daunting. I’d love to see her try something new for once. And yet, I started reading her back when there was only one series, and I’ve always had enough fun with her books that I can’t seem to stop picking them up, flaws and all. Every time I jump back in, even when I think my reading tastes have changed and it won’t work for me anymore, I find myself hooked all over again; I hope you will find yourself pleasantly surprised (and possibly addicted) as well! But I also enjoy a good CC dunking, so either way I will be eagerly following along with your two-part reviews, haha. Best of luck!

Hahaha yeah she’s still not my favorite author, and I’ve noticed a lot of flaws in her books so far, but they are incredibly addicting!
I know she still has one more unwritten series she plans to do, but I’m curious if she’ll ever write anything outside of this world.
